In 1996, Doug founded LendingTree which revolutionized how consumers shop for loans and how lenders reach new customers.

The history of AboutRates
We’ve been at this a long time—we started way back in 1997, when websites were the hip new thing. Our founder, Doug Lebda, wanted to create a place that made comparison shopping loans easier after he spent way too long running to different banks just to get competing offers.
We brought rates online, making banks compete, and over the years we’ve saved Americans billions. Now LendingTree is the nation’s largest lending marketplace, with hundreds of lenders and dozens of products. From mortgages and personal loans, to credit cards and deposit accounts, we’re still in the business of helping people find the best deals on the money they need.
